Spring is almost here and many are preparing to take to the Great Outdoors for camping, hiking, hunting, clearing brush around the farm, and other outdoor activities. Most will come into some exposure to skin irritants, Poison oak, ivy, or sumac; bees, mosquitoes, briars, or many other irritants. Jewelweed has potent antifungal properties, which also confirm its use as a treatment for athlete’s foot, ringworm, and dandruff. Even in the dead of winter, with all vestiges of leaves having long departed, one can get a good case of poison ivy just by rubbing up against the bare branches. We do, however, have a weapon to counter-attack: Jewelweed. Jewelweed contains active chemical compounds, Saponins, that neutralize the effects of the Urishiol oil of poison ivy and also acts to soothe the itch of other irritants.
Jewelweed is a native American plant. Early American settlers learned about jewelweed from the Native Americans, using the juice to treat various itches. The Potawatomi and other tribes of the Appalachian area used jewelweed to prevent reactions to poison ivy and to treat any sores that developed. A jewelweed infusion will stop the itching and, within 3 to 4 days, clear up the rash. I managed to get a nice dose of poison ivy, myself, a couple of weeks ago and began using this formulation when the itching started. The itch stops within a minute or two and within a week, the whole rash was gone.
This highly concentrated oil can also be used similar to sunscreen, by spreading it on exposed areas before venturing into the Great Outdoors it can neutralize the oil before it can form a r

It seems that Jewelweed is Nature’s way of apologizing for the poison ivy because it grows in such close proximity to it and counters the effects of the ivy.
I have several acres of Jewelweed growing wild on my farm on Bear Branch, near Damascus, Va. and being close to the junction of the Virginia Creeper Trail and the Appalachian trail, there is enough poison ivy exposure to go around. This oil is formulated in small batches, with freshly collected Jewelweed leaves, stems, and flowers and Extra virgin olive oil. This is softer than a salve or cream and is easier to apply, especially when the blisters are up and you don’t want the application to open them. It is also more conducive to a one-hand application.
For all of you crafters out there, this can also be used as a base in creating creams, lotions, soaps and other cosmetic items. Just replace some of this infused oil in your formulation.
RETURN POLICY: Oils may be returned within 3 days of receipt; however, they must be in the same, unopened and sealed container as originally shipped. Buyer pays all return shipping fees.
