Description
Juniper berries are harvested from an evergreen tree in the cypress family. The berries are actually cones, and often used to flavor game meats, sauces, breads, and liquor. Juniper berries were once used to flavor Scottish whiskey, and are still used in gin, Swedish beer & a French beverage called genevrette. Juniper berry is very popular in Scandinavian cuisine, where it is used to flavor wild game. The so-called berries are not eaten raw because they are too bitter, but their strong flavor is tempered when dried.Uses:
- Use in potpourri and floral displays
- Infuse in alcohol or use to flavor various foods
- Use as a dark blue to purple dye
- Often used in perfumery
- Use in tea blends
