ORIGINAL IVES “BLACK DIAMOND” #241 CLUB CARIves “Black Diamond” cars are among the most highly sought after and rarest of the so-called “Transition Period” from 1928-1932. In 1928, Ives was ready to introduce their new “Crack” Passenger Train, “The Candidate Special”. It was to be finished with dull black sides and brilliant red roofs. For the purpose of display, the then new 1134R was to be finished in a Bright Nickel plate. Unfortunately, only prototypes of these cars were produced as on July 31, 1928 Lionel and American Flyer acquired ownership of the company!
Apparently, the notion of producing these spectacular cars was implemented using standard production American Flyer President Special type cars. The set was offered in 1928-29.
This #241 Club Car has obviously been well played with, but is 100%
original with no touch-ups!
Original Black Diamond cars rarely ever show up on EBay and especially in an un-molested condition! See my other listing for a set of three Black Diamond cars. You could combine this car with the other three thus creating a four car set, even though you would have two Club Cars.
